Blogging Queer Brotherhood:
A Deviant Approach to Butch/Tomboy Community on Taiwan Digital Milieu

In this paper, I will analysis the stimulating phenomenon of an informal, unorthodox, even politically incorrect queer fraternal community which is growing in both quantity and multitude with enthusiastic exchanges and consolidation via the exceedingly blooming cybernetic ground. The hyper-real cyberspace served as a site of queer identity formation is both a promising innovative form of empowerment and a potentially ambivalent apparatus to deal with non-normative bodily sensibility, outlaw genders, and ideological dynamics within the confines and exits apart from so-called three-dimensional space. I will argue that, in this newer frame work of identity foundation, it offers self-generated nourishments and differentiated ways of confrontation to the monogamous straight mind, thus there is a radical departure from the imbalanced battles between main-stream system and queer subjects, where the empires of many minor others strike back without being under the gaze of the unified Big Other or forced into the position of the underdog in order to survive the brutal oppression of everyday “reality”.

I will articulate these arguments by analyzing various raw materials posted on digital space. The linguistic clashes and reinvention, masculinity building, and the “returned gaze” strategy to defy the reticent straight look are but several of many “pricks-in-sharpening-sword” of this virile transgender playground. This not-yet-institutionalized queer brotherhood is both hard-core real and streetwise, conflicting-in-Himself and extravagant with fraternal intimacy, thus by now it has produced some no-nonsense effects on a temporally/spatially altered milieu. Enriched by this cyber queer community is the epistemology on sex, body, and gender identity in which these deviant subjects are subtly included and incorporated to revise power hierarchy in multiple levels of variant realities.
